Bon Bon: A Sweet Name and a Second Chance

Bon Bon’s name suits her.

In French, a bonbon is a sweet—a little piece of candy. And although my Boston Terrier comes with plenty of opinions and a personality much bigger than her size, she brings a particular sweetness to my life. [1]

She finds happiness in sunshine. She loves sleeping right beside me. Her expressive little face can make an ordinary afternoon feel like something worth remembering.

She is also a rescue.

That part of her story matters to me, because the dog who brings so much love into my home once needed a home herself.

Before She Was Part of My Everyday Life

When you love a rescue dog, it can be hard to imagine your days without them.

You become familiar with their favorite places to sleep, their little expressions, and the ways they ask for attention. They become part of the rhythm of your home.

That is who Bon Bon is to me now: my little companion, my sunbather, and the small dog with the very large presence.

I don’t need to fill in the unknown parts of her past to appreciate her place in my life today. She deserves to be loved for who she is, and I’m grateful I get to know her.

Other Dogs Are Still Waiting in Indiana

Bon Bon’s story makes me think about the dogs whose families haven’t found them yet.

When I checked on October 23, 2026, the adoption directory Every Dog’s Chance listed 650 dogs through 24 Indiana shelters and rescues. That is one directory’s listing count, not a complete statewide total, and availability changes daily. But it offers a glimpse of how many dogs are still waiting to be noticed. [2]

Behind each listing is an individual dog.

A dog whose personality may be easier to see in a quiet home than in a kennel. A dog with favorite things that someone has yet to discover. A dog who might someday become the familiar face waiting beside another family’s couch.

Looking at Bon Bon, I think about how much those families could have ahead of them.

Your Sweet Ending Might Begin With a Visit

Adoption is a commitment to daily care, veterinary expenses, patience, and learning about the dog you bring home. Finding a good match matters—for the dog and for everyone in the household.

Ask questions. Be honest about your routine, your experience, and what you can manage. Give the shelter or rescue a chance to help you find a companion whose needs fit your life.

You don’t have to rush into a decision to make a difference.

If adoption isn’t possible right now, you can ask about fostering, volunteer your time, donate supplies, or share an adoptable dog’s profile. There are different ways to help a story move forward.

A Little More Sweetness in the World

Bon Bon’s sweet ending lives in everyday moments.

A comfortable place to sleep. Someone beside her. Sunshine to enjoy. A home where her big personality belongs.

And the sweetness goes both ways. She receives love, but she brings so much of it with her.

Somewhere in Indiana, another dog is waiting for the chance to become someone’s favorite part of an ordinary day.

Your own sweet ending might start with giving that dog a chance.
